Finally! I know you’re breathing a sigh of relief right now, that this is the last post of this series.
And you know what else? It’s going to be a short one. 😉
“This whole “real food” thing is too confusing.” Maybe you have said this. I know I did.
But guess what, friend? You are so fortunate to live in an age where you have easy access to endless references and resources that can help you in this. Many of which are free or at least extremely affordable!
Have you ever searched YouTube to see what they have to offer? No? Let me assist you…
Processed Food Documentary: Processed Food vs. Nutritional Need
Jamie Oliver’s Sugar Rush: Full Documentary
Navigating the Supermarket Aisle
Michael Pollan: Food Rules for Healthy People and Planet
Michael Pollan: In Defense of Food
Seriously, you can find so many videos to watch for free online. And if you already have a Netflix account, there’s more there, too! Try checking out Michael Pollan’s 4 part “Cooked” series. It’s amazing and mind blowing, and it’s guaranteed to make you look at food differently.
Want to purchase some books? I’ve got those for you, too!
100 Days of Real Food: Fast & Fabulous: The Easy and Delicious Way to Cut Out Processed Food
In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto
Cooked: A Natural History of Transformation
The Pollan Family Table: The Best Recipes and Kitchen Wisdom for Delicious, Healthy Family Meals
Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us
Ok, so yeah, I could list a million of those as well.
But here’s the thing…the thing ALL of this really boils down to. If it’s important to you, you will find a way. For your healths’ sake, and for your children…if it’s important to you to make sure you are feeding your body good things, you will find a way. I’m about to drop some tough love on you all right now. Friends, this is more than about just becoming a vegetarian or going gluten free. I could never do either of those things, personally. I love meat (mmm, burgers made out of grass-fed beef are so flippin’ amazing), and I love bread. Unless you have an actual medical reason to cut out gluten, you are missing out on so many benefits of wheat grains.
And if you’re not into reading books and watching videos, you can find hundreds of Facebook groups that are dedicated to helping people just like you, find better health through food!
And if you’re still confused after all of that, that’s ok too! Ask questions! Find someone you know and trust and ask them questions. WHY they do it. HOW they do it. I bet they’d even let you tag along on a grocery trip or two. 😉
It may seem confusing now, but I can promise you this; the more you read and allow yourself to learn about WHY we want to remove processed foods from our diets, the easier it will become to understand HOW to do it. They go hand in hand. And that, my friends, is one reason why I started this blog. Because I knew there were others out there like me. Others who are busy, and living on a budget, yet still want and deserve to eat healthy, and feed their families well!
You can do this.
Grab a book (any of the ones I mentioned above are great resources!), watch a video or the Michael Pollan Netflix series, and get ready to have those rose colored glasses ripped right off your pretty little face. It’s scary, and awesome, and it will be the best decision you ever made for your health.
