‘Tis the season…

Coughing. So. Much. Coughing.

It never fails…sometime during the month of December, I always get some sort of respiratory junk. It’s awesome…said no one ever.

Now I will say that since we began utilizing essential oils in our home, a little over 2 years ago, we have seen a drastic change in the amount of sickness we deal with, and the severity of it. For that, I am beyond thankful. This past Christmas I got some respiratory stuff, and it didn’t last the typical 3 weeks, like it usually does. Woot! Woot! But during those coughing fits, it’s just not fun at all. In fact, it can be downright unpleasant and painful.

Well, the LAST time I dealt with this sort of thing, I had done a ton of searching for various home remedies that could help ease the severity of the cough, while soothing my sore throat. A girls gotta sleep, and coughing doesn’t exactly allow that to happen. So I blended up a little concoction and…wow! Y’all, this stuff tastes awful, but it works! Desperate times and all.

The mix.

So what’s in this little mystery mix? So. Many. Good. Things.

A little water, some honey (local honey is best, if you can get your hands on some), a bit of apple cider vinegar (be sure to get the kind with “the mother”), a dash of cayenne pepper, some ginger, and voila!

Now for MY mixture, I didn’t have any fresh Ginger on hand, so I subbed in a drop of my Ginger essential oil, and it did the trick nicely! But I don’t think you can go wrong either way.

I like this recipe because you can mix up a small batch to keep on hand, as soon as you start to feel the yuck coming on. I stored mine in a small mason jar with lid, and just took about a tablespoon every 2-4 hours, as I needed it. And I found that if I took it right before bed, that it helped ease the coughing so much that I could actually get some sleep! Can I get an AMEN?!

So there you go. If you can get past the taste for just a minute, it’s so worth it! This has officially been filed away in my “permanent” home remedies stash. So, if you’re feeling a bit rough, mix this up, and lift a spoon to feeling better, faster!

Ease the Hack!
Help ease that nasty cough!
